"Crew for a Day" Program
Have you always dreamed about riding in the cab of a historic steam locomotive? Are you looking for a unique and special gift for that railroad buff in your life? Railtown 1897 State Historic Park offers a unique chance to experience being a part of a locomotive crew for a day.
This program provides an opportunity to learn about historic steam engines and offers hands on experience in start up procedures, taking on water, learning about regulatory safety tests and the opportunity to watch the operation of the historic No. 3 or No. 28 steam locomotives from the engine cab.
Your Day as Part of the Engine Crew
You will arrive at the roundhouse at 7:00 am and start the day with the crew. As an honorary crew member, you will participate in hostling the locomotive, including lighting the locomotive with a burning rag, lubricating, fueling, and taking on water at the historic water tank.
Under the supervision of the qualified Railtown engine crew, you will take your place in the cab for the first run of the day, and learn what it takes to operate a historic steam locomotive.
End your exciting day as a member of the fire crew, tailing the steam engine in a vintage track car.
Back at the station, you will receive your Engine Crew for a Day Certificate and have your photograph taken with the members of your train crew. This is truly a day you will never forget.
One person: $500
Two person party: $750
